We bring medical care by traveling through forests and seas in Myanmar
In Myanmar, 70% of the population lives in rural areas, where are concentrated the 84% of burmese poorest population. Rural villages are hours away from hospitals and people from distant villages pay ⅓ of their monthly salary to reach the hospital, in addition to paying most of the hospital's medical bills. The only health professionals present in rural areas are midwives who help pregnant women give birth. In the Kawthaung district, there are health centers near the villages in decaying conditions: without doctors, without medicines and without medical equipment.
To assist patients who live far from hospitals, MedAcross has created the Mobile Clinic, an off-road vehicle that once a month reaches more than ten villages where are employed migrants in the palm and rubber plantations.
Using a boat, the MedAcross staff provides monthly medical assistance to the inhabitants of the Lampi islands, home to the Moken, a population of stateless fishermen who traditionally spent all their lives at sea in small boats.
