Rwanda is a landlocked country in Central Africa, characterized by rolling hills and a poor yet determined population that endured a devastating genocide in 1994. Today, the country presents a sharp contrast between Kigali—the capital with some modern infrastructure—and the rest of the territory, where poverty, poor transportation, and lack of basic services remain widespread. Access to clean water is limited, and roads are often impassable, especially during the rainy season.
In this challenging context, we at MedAcross are present to provide concrete support to the children who need it most.
In Nganzo, a rural village nestled in the Rwandan hills, two schools serve over a thousand children. However, the facilities are inadequate, and poor conditions make it difficult to ensure quality education. Classrooms are overcrowded, sanitary facilities are insufficient, and the lack of school supplies limits learning opportunities. Health issues such as malaria and intestinal infections further hinder regular attendance.
For this reason, first Specchio dei tempi and now MedAcross have been working to improve the situation. We are renovating roofs, floors, windows, and toilets, providing new desks and school kits, and building a courtyard with a sports field for basketball and volleyball—giving children a safe space to play and socialize.
